About Informed Practice

The Team
Informed Practice is developed by a team led by TOP’s Medical Director, Dr. G. Michael (Mike) Allan and includes Dr. Christina (Tina) Korownyk, Dr. Michael (Mike) Kolber, and others. When required, other physicians and healthcare professionals are also involved in development. 

The Informed Practice team develops and maintains clinical practice guidelines for Alberta physicians. A new CPG develpoment and review process document is in development.

The team also regularly reviews the summarized publications of InfoPOEMS, ACP Journal Club ®, and Evidence Based Medicine Journal. These reviews screen a broad base of the medical literature and use a systematic approach to selecting the most relevant and highest quality research for application to general clinical medicine. In addition, the summarized reviews are supplemented with regular reviews of major journals, such as The New England Journal of Medicine© (NEJM), BMJ, and JAMA® (The Journal of the American Medical Association). Detailed searches of the published literature are conducted on topics of interest, looking for the highest level of evidence (randomized controlled trials and systematic reviews with or without meta-analysis).
